Chevelle '68-'72

Front End

In 1968 Chevrolet started a new era. The Chevelle emerged from the "boxy" powerhouses of the past, to a new sleeker design. This page will attempt to help you identify these years from 1968-72. This information should apply to the El Caminos, as well as the Chevelle Wagons. As with most cars, the front end seems to be the easiest way for me to identify a car. I will work on info for the rear end, but it's usually hard to find pictures of the rear of a car. If you can round them up, then please e-mail them to me. Also, there might be a mistake here. If you can help me out, I will appreciate it. Now on to the good stuff!
1968
1969
1970
The 1968 Chevelle had a one-section grille, and dual headlights. The parking lights were located on the front bumper, and directly below the headlights. In 1969 the Chevelle had a two-sectioned grille, with dual headlights on each side. There was also a small "bow-tie" emblem located on the grille seperator. The parking lights were located on the front bumper, but were moved in closer, as compared to the 1968. In 1970 Chevy stuck with the two-sectioned grille, however the seperator was body-colored, instead of chrome. The headlights were still duals, but the bezels were not located on the grille, but on two panels to each side of the grille. The parking lights remained on the bumper, but were moved out farther, underneath the headlights.
1971
1972
The 1971 Chevelle saw a similar grille to that of the 1970, however, the headlights were reduced to one on each side, and the parking lights were moved up to the outside of the headlights. There were two parking lights on each side. In 1972 Chevy changed to a three-sectioned grille. The single headlights remained the same. Yet the parking lights were changed to one lens, and kept in the same location.
